The 62nd edition of Miss South Africa is one of the major beauty pageants that will take place while the world is battling against the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The 10 finalists of the competition were revealed on August 5, 2020.
On October 24, 2020, the Miss South Africa 2020 final will be aired live on M-Net, DStv, Mzansi Magic and YouTube. The winner will represent South Africa in Miss Universe 2020, Miss World 2021, or Miss Supranational 2021 while the two runners-up will represent the country in two other pageants.
In 2019, Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss South Africa while Sasha-Lee Olivier was her runner-up. When Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe 2019, the Miss South Africa 2019 title was transferred to Olivier.
Therefore, it will be Olivier who will pass the crown to Miss Universe 2020. Here are the 10 finalists:
Aphelele Mbiyo, 24, Port Elizabeth, Nelson Mandela Bay, Easter Cape
Mbiyo was born in Mthata and raised in Port Elizabeth. Currently based in Johannesburg, she holds a bachelor’s degree in integrated marketing communications.
Busisiwe Mmotla, 27, Soweto, Johannesburg, Gauteng
Mmotla is an alumna of the University of Johannesburg. She is a Senior and FET Phase teacher and is currently studying for a diploma in personal training.
Chantelle Pretorius, 24, Pretoria, Tshwane, Gauteng
Pretorius is a full-time international model. She has a diploma in nutrition and is also finishing her bachelor’s degree in business management through Unisa.
Jordan Van Der Vyver, 24, Durbanville, Cape Town, Western Cape
Van Der Vyver is an international model. She usually spends half the year outside South Africa.
Karishma Ramdev, 25, Chatsworth, eThekwini, KwaZulu-Natal
Ramdev is currently based in Johannesburg. She works there as a medical doctor at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.
Lebogang Mahlangu, 24, Soshanguve, Tshwane, Gauteng
Mahlangu is a food scientist. She works in research and development for a large multi-national.
Melissa Nayimuli, 24, Butterworth, Mnquma, Amathole, Eastern Cape
Nayimuli currently lives in Sunninghill, Johannesburg. She works there as an account manager for a marketing agency.
Natasha Joubert, 22, Centurion, Tshwane, Gauteng
Joubert holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing management. She works in public relations at a firm of attorneys.
Shudufhadzo Musida, 23, Ha-Masia, Vhembe, Limpopo
Musida earned her bachelor’s degree in philosophy, politics and economics from the University of Pretoria. She is currently doing her honours degree in international relations at the University of Witwatersrand.
Thato Mosehle, 25, Stilfontein, Matlosana, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, North West
Mosehle is a medical doctor. She is currently completing her internship with the aim of becoming an anesthesiologist.
The list of 35 Miss South Africa quarterfinalists was revealed on June 21, 2020. They were whittled down to Top 15 semi-finalists on June 24, 2020.
