Fredrick James, 34, of Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia, United States is in jail. At around 5:45 p.m. of October 3, 2020, he drove up his truck beside the 15 Black Lives Matter protesters lying in the intersection on Bay Street in front of the Savannah City Hall in Savannah, Georgia.
The demonstrators were blocking traffic in protest of the death of Breonna Taylor. They planned to remain there for 8 minutes and 42 seconds, representing how long former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on George Floyd’s neck.
While James was inside his truck, he allegedly threw out a smoke grenade at the protesters. Some of the protesters run away while others attacked his truck, prompting him to exit and point a gun at them, Fox 28 Savannah reported.
James was soon located nearby. He was arrested and booked into the Chatham County Jail in Savannah.
On October 5, 2020, James made his first appearance in records court in Savanah. He did not receive bond.
The Decatur man’s case is being held over to the Chatham County Superior Court in Savannah. He was charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct.
