Training out of Evolve MMA in Singapore, “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan (熊竞楠), 32, of China is still the ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion. For the fourth time, the first ever Chinese mixed martial arts world champion successfully defended her ONE Championship belt.

Tiffany “No Chill” Teo, 30, of Singapore challenged Xiong at “ONE: Inside the Matrix.” ONE Championship held the MMA event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on October 30, 2020.

Both Xiong and Teo are 165cm tall. The Singaporean challenger is training out of Singapore Top Team.

“ONE: Inside the Matrix” featured six MMA matches, four of which are title bouts. It was the first sporting event in Singapore that allows for a limited live audience since it moved into the second phase of its reopening amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The title bout between Xiong and Teo, which was a rematch, was the third bout of the evening. Yuji Shimada served as the referee.

From start to end, Xiong peppered Teo with beautiful boxing combinations proving the faster, more powerful puncher. The Singaporean challenger had her moments, scoring on a few takedowns and connecting on a series of sharp knees and roundhouse kicks.

However, Xiong was far too forceful on the feet and Teo just could not overcome the pressure. After five five-minute rounds, the title bout was left in the hands of the three judges and in the end, Shimada raised the hand of the Chinese defending champion, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

Winning at “ONE: Inside the Matrix” improved the professional MMA record of Xiong to 15 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, Teo now has 9 wins and 2 losses.

A total of 12 countries were represented at “ONE: Inside the Matrix” namely Australia, Cambodia, China, India, Italy, Moldova, Myanmar, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam. Xiong solely represented China while Teo was one of the two representatives of Singapore.

Born in Jining, Shandong, China on January 12, 1988, Xiong made her professional MMA debut inn 2014. When she made her ONE Championship debut on December 9, 2017, she knocked out April Osenio, 26, of the Philippines.

After knocking out Teo on January 20, 2018, Xiong became the ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion by defeating Laura “La Gladiadora” Balin, 40, of Argentina on June 23, 2018. The Chinese champion successfully defended the belt from Samara “Marituba” Santos, 27, of Brazil on September 8, 2018 and “The Unstoppable” Angela Lee, 24, of Singapore on March 31, 2019.
