“King Kong Warrior” Fan Rong, 26, of Harbin, China was one of the winners at “ONE: Inside the Matrix III.” It was the Chinese mixed martial artist’s second victory in ONE Championship.
Training at Longyun MMA in Harbin, Fan fought Yuri Simões, 30, of Ilha de Guaratiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at “ONE: Inside the Matrix III.” ONE Championship taped the closed-door MMA event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore and aired it in the evening of November 13, 2020.
Five MMA fights were on the “ONE: Inside the Matrix III” fight card. Six countries were represented namely Brazil, China, Japan, the Philippines, Russia and South Korea.
In the second bout of the evening, Simões and Rong battled it out in the middleweight division. Mohamad Sulaiman served as the referee.
Simões hunted for takedowns all night while Fan punished him with thudding counters. As the bout wore on, the Brazilian contender began to tire and his Chinese opponent capitalized by landing a plethora of thunderous strikes.
After three five-minute rounds, the middleweight contest was left in the hands of the judges. In the end, Sulaiman raised the hand of Fan, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Beating Simões at “ONE: Inside the Matrix III” improved the professional MMA record of Fan to 12 wins and 2 losses. On the other hand, the Brazilian MMA fighter now has 0 win and 1 loss.
Simões stands 183cm while Fan is 2cm taller. Training at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California, United States, the former is a two-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) World Champion.
Fan solely represented China at “ONE: Inside the Matrix 3.” Simões was one of the two representatives of Brazil.
Competing professionally since 2016, Fan made his ONE Championship debut on January 25, 2019 and was submitted by Reinier de Ridder of the Netherlands, who is now the reigning ONE Middleweight World Champion. On June 15, 2019, the Chinese MMA fighter earned his first win in the promotion by knocking out Sherif Mohamed of Egypt.
