LOONA premiered the music video of its new song “Star,” which was directed by Moswantd and produced by Bravo Peak. The release comes off of the K-pop girl group’s debut on the Billboard Top 200 chart and continues their international success after the release of its third mini album “[12:00]” on October 19, 2020.
“Star” is a fan-favorite English track from the album. It is an energetic retro song with a low, addictive repeated beat that captures the uncontainable excitement of being in love.
Inspired by LOONA’s midnight festival Sleeping Beauty and the cosmos, the ethereal music video follows the K-pop group as the 12 members namely HeeJin, HyunJin, HaSeul, YeoJin, ViVi, Kim Lip, JinSoul, Choerry, Yves, Chuu, Go Won and Olivia Hye wake up within a dream and chase their goals and aspirations after discovering themselves in a mysterious space.
The stars that appear throughout the music video represent LOONA’s official fan club called Orbits. It implies that as the members of the K-pop singers chase their dreams, they are illuminated by Orbits all over the world.
The “[12:00]” album recently debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart, making LOONA the first independent K-pop girl group to debut on the chart. The group also debuted on the Rolling Stone Top 200 chart for two consecutive weeks upon album release.
The album broke LOONA’s previous records by reaching number 1 on the iTunes Album chart in 49 countries, number 1 in K-Pop charts in 50 markets, number 1 in Pop charts in 40 markets as well as maintaining its number 1 ranking on the Worldwide iTunes Album chart for three consecutive days. Additionally, the group trended worldwide for both the number 1 and number 2 hashtags on Twitter, as well as in 28 other markets, upon album release.
An eight-track mini album, “[12:00]” was produced by legendary K-Pop producer Soo-Man Lee, the founder of SM Entertainment. It features collaborators with acclaimed producers/writers including Trackside (Selena Gomez, The Chainsmokers), Georgia Ku (Dua Lipa, Martin Garrix, Zedd), Jesse Saint John (Lizzo, Charli XCX), Coach and Sendo.
“[12:00]” currently has over 33 million streams. Watch the “Star” music video here:
