Lowen Tynanes, 30, of Hawaii, United States knocked out Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, 37, of Baguio City, Philippines at “URCC 22: Dekada,” an event by the Universal Reality Combat Championship, which has been renamed as URCC Global. It took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on December 1, 2012.
Both Tynanes and Folayang are now ONE Championship athletes. The Hawaiian mixed martial artist is still undefeated while the Filipino MMA fighter held and lost the ONE Lightweight World Championship belt twice.
“Lowen is a great wrestler and he’s always looking to take his opponents to the ground,” Folayang said. “I experienced that firsthand when we met many years ago.”
“However, I think I’m a much different fighter now compared to before,” the two-time ONE Lightweight World Champion said. “If we do meet again, I will prepare hard for him.”
Training at Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines, Folayang made his ONE Championship debut in 2011. Tynanes joined the Singapore-based martial arts organization in 2013.
“The hardest thing about facing Lowen is the threat of his takedowns,” the Team Lakay veteran said of Tynanes. “It’s not easy to escape the ground once you’re there with him because of his control. He is very good in controlling his opponents.”
From 2011 to 2020, Folayang had 12 wins and 8 losses in ONE Championship. From 2013 to 2019, Tynanes had 5 wins and 0 loss in the promotion.
Tynanes will have his sixth ONE Championship fight at “ONE: Collision Course.” He will fight former ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov, 36, of Dagestan, Russia in the lightweight division.
“I think the mental aspect of this fight is something to watch out for,” Folayang said of the upcoming lightweight bout between Tynanes and Gafurov. “It’s going to be about who can impose his game plan better. Whoever is stronger in the mind will win this fight.”
“ONE: Collision Course” will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on December 18, 2020. The fight card features four MMA matches, one Muay Thai fight and one kickboxing contest.
