Guyana is the only country in South America in which English is the official language. The country is one of the founding members of the Caribbean Community organization.

A former British dominion, Guyana became a republic on February 23, 1970. Nine indigenous tribes reside in the country namely Akawaio, Kalina, Lokono, Macushi, Patamona, Pemon, Wai Wai, Wapishana and Wara.

More than 70 percent of the natural habitat in Guyana is still pristine and it has one of the highest levels of biodiversity in the world. Among its top tourists spots are Mount Roraima, the Kanuku Mountains, the Iwokrama Rainforest, the Surama Village and the Kaieteur Falls.
