It was in Italy where the Renaissance started before it spread to the rest of Europe. The country’s art, literature, law, economy and technology developed during the Pax Romana, which lasted from 72 BC to 180 AD.

Located in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, Italy is a melting pot of cultures and is considered one of the most advanced countries in the world in terms of culture and economy. It is the European Union’s third most populous member state.

Italy has 55 United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization world heritage sites. Among these are the Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalù and Monreale, City of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto and Ferrara, City of the Renaissance, and its Po Delta.
