Sammy Imaedeen Hamed, 22, of Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa, United States has been arrested by the Iowa City Police Department. He was charged with first-degree murder.

Booked into the Johnson County Jail, Hamed is accused of fatally shooting Quincy H. Russom, 19, of Iowa City during a robbery in an apartment on South Governor Street in Iowa City on February 12, 2021. When the suspect was stopped several hours after the shooting, he had a gun and the victim’s possessions including a cellphone.

Police were called to the apartment at 7:53 p.m. that night. A witness told the officers that three men entered the residence, shot Russom and then fled, KWWL reported.

Russom is Don Russom and Jenny Nay’s son. Quincy has three siblings namely Karina Snyder, Kobi Russom and Payton Russom.

The shooting death of Quincy is Iowa City’s first homicide in 2021. It is also the city’s first homicide since its resident Kejuan Winters, 21, was fatally shot on 1960 Broadway Street on April 20, 2020, according to The Gazette.

A shell casing found inside Quincy’s apartment matched with the firearm found on Hamed. An autopsy has ruled the victim’s death a homicide.

The other two persons who allegedly entered Quincy’s apartment with Hamed are yet to be identified and arrested. Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the other suspect or suspects.

Hamed previously lived in Coralville, Johnson County. He has been in custody since February 13, 2021.

It was not the first time Hamed was arrested. On November 16, 2018, he was arrested in Johnston, Polk County, Iowa for two counts of controlled substance violation.
