Jacob D. Smitson, 24, of Orleans, Orleans Township, Orange County, Indiana, United States was recently arrested in Bedford, Shawswick Township, Lawrence County, Indiana. He was charged with obstruction of justice, resisting arrest by fleeing and force and possession of methamphetamine.
On March 2, 2021, a Bedford Police Department officer tried to stop Smitson for a traffic violation in Bedford, WBIW reported. The Orleans resident tried to flee but when his vehicle was eventually stopped, he told the officer that he pulled into the wrong drive while going to a Taco Bell.
The officer asked Smitson if he had anything illegal on him. The latter said he had a prescription in his pocket before turning from the officer and refusing to stop.
Smitson ran through the parking lot where he was tackled and handcuffed by the officer after a brief struggle. The Orleans man was transported to jail.
Officers found a crystal substance in the police car seat where Smitson sat. It tested positive for methamphetamine.
The arrest happened three days before Smitson’s 25th birthday. It was not the first time he was arrested.
On May 8, 2017, Smitson was found guilty of dealing in methamphetamine. He was sentenced to six years in prison.
In September 2018, Smitson was charged with dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a syringe and possession of a handgun without a license, Hoosier Times-Mail reported. He was a resident of Paoli, Paoli Township, Orange County at the time.
Smitson attended Paoli Junior-Senior High School. He previously worked at Paoli Peaks- Ski Ride Tube.
