Dalila Uwera was crowned the inaugural Miss Rwanda at Hotel Chez Lando in Kigali, Rwanda on December 17, 1993. The second woman to hold the title is Grace Bahati, who was crowned at the Gikondo Expo Grounds in Kigali on December 19, 2009.

Aurore Mutesi Kayiranga was crowned Miss Rwanda 2012 at the Gikondo Expo Grounds on December 1, 2012. Since the crowning of Colombe Akiwacu at the Petit Stade of Remera in Kigali on February 22, 2014, the beauty pageant started being held regularly every year.

The next queens are Miss Rwanda 2015 Doriane Kundwa, Miss Rwanda 2016 Jolly Mutesi, Miss Rwanda 2017 Elsa Iradukunda and Miss Rwanda 2018 Liliane Iradukunda. The reigning Miss Rwanda 2019 Meghan Nimwiza, who was crowned on January 26, 2019, will crown her successor at the Kigali Arena in Kigali on March 22, 2021.
