Alena Jenkins, 40, has been arrested. She was charged with a hate crime, battery and violation of probation.
A transient, Jenkins at a McDonald’s on the 900 block of El Monte Avenue in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, California, United States on the morning of March 20, 2021 when she allegedly hit an employee at the restaurant and made racist comments about the ethnicity of the employee, who is of Latino descent. The victim’s name was not released.
Although Jenkins struck the employee in the upper body, the latter was not injured and refused medical attention. The attacker refused to leave and police were called.
When the authorities arrived, Jenkins continued to make racist comments. She was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail in San Jose, Santa Clara County.
“We will continue to hold those that commit crimes against others, simply based on their race, accountable,” KTVU quoted Mountain View Police Department chief Chris Hsiung as saying. “As I have said before, hate has no place in this community.”
This is not the first time Jenkins was arrested in California. She was 38 years old and a resident of San Jose when she was arrested by officers from San Bruno Police Department in San Bruno, San Mateo County, California on August 19, 2019.
That day, Jenkins allegedly knocked down a person on Sneath Lane and Huntington Avenue in San Bruno. She was also accused of stealing several items including a cell phone from the victim, who suffered minor injuries from the attack, according to Mercury News.
At the time, Jenkins was booked into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City, San Mateo County. She was charged with assault and robbery.
Diane Howard is the current Redwood City mayor. The city is the county seat of San Mateo County, which is part of the San Francisco Bay Area.
San Mateo County is one of the nine counties bordering San Francisco Bay. The other eight are Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Santa Clara, Solano, Sonoma and San Francisco.
