Treveon Jamar Nelson, 18, of Cayce, South Carolina, United States has been arrested by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. He is expected to be charged with murder.
Nelson is accused of fatally shooting Sanaa Amenhotep, 15, of Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina. On April 5, 2021, Amenhotep’s mother Saleemah Graham-Fleming reported her missing.
That day, Amenhotep was wearing a black NASA shirt, light blue jeans and pink crocs when she left her home in Columbia willingly with a friend and two male acquaintances. However, the victim was allegedly kidnapped before she was murdered.
On April 28, 2021, Jaylon Wilson, 17, was arrested and charged with kidnapping. A minor female was also arrested in connection with this case and is being held by the South Carolina of Juvenile Justice, according to WIS TV.
With the help of the community, Graham-Fleming kept searching for her daughter. On April 29, 2021, Amenhotep was founded dead in a wooded area off Interstate 20 in the Batesburg-Leesville area in Lexington County.
“I need justice for my daughter because a child this sweet, cakey, shouldn’t have to die like that,” WLTX quoted Fleming as saying. She said Amenhotep loved people.
“She never really met a stranger,” Fleming said of Amenhotep. “That night, she asked to go take pictures near a swing with her sister and I said sure. It was the top of spring break. No problem.”
On April 30, 2021, the Lexington County Coroner’s office announced that Amenhotep died from multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide. On the same day, Nelson was arrested near Leesville, South Carolina.
Amenhotep was a freshman at Richland Northeast High School in Columbia. Her father Sharif Malik Amenhotep is a member of the Brick City Peace Collective in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, USA.
