Joshua A. Townsend, 25, of Horseheads, Chemung County, New York, United States has been arrested by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with rape in the first degree and assault in the third degree.
On May 27, 2021, Chemung County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to an address on Hillview Drive in Southport, Chemung County for a disturbance. They learned that Townsend held a female victim against her will for a period of time.
Townsend is also accused of physically assaulting her and raped the victim. He was arraigned in the Town of Southport Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail in Elmira, Chemung County where he is being held on a $50,000.00 cash bond and a $100,000.00 property bond.
The age of the victim was not disclosed by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office. The exact duration of Townsend’s alleged crimes was not disclosed either.
Elmira is the county seat of Chemung County, which was founded on March 29, 1836. The county was named after a Delaware Indian village whose name meant “big horn.”
