Although Noynoy was a teetotaler, he was a smoker. In December 2019, he was confined in an intensive care unit at the Makati Medical Center in Makati City, Metro Manila for an executive checkup and undisclosed routine procedures.
Noynoy reportedly smoked up to two packs of cigarettes a day. When he attended the funeral of 12th Philippine president Fidel V. Ramos‘s daughter Josephine “Jo” Ramos on June 28, 2011 in Sucat, Parañaque, Metro Manila, he was asked if he was not afraid of getting lung cancer.
“Lahat naman tayo may tadhana e (Well, we all have a destiny),” Noynoy told ABS-CBN News. “I try not to influence anybody as much as possible.”
