Christopher Winters, 32, of Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo County, California, United States has been arrested by the Paso Robles Police Department. He is accused of being involved in the killing of Steve Leon, 22, of Paso Robles.
At around 1:40 a.m. on July 3, 2021, Leon was walking on Meadowlark Road near Deer Springs Drive in Paso Robles when he was hit by a silver vehicle. The driver of the vehicle drove off without checking on him.
Before responding officers arrived at the scene, Leon was hit again by a dark-colored Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) allegedly driven by Winters. The Paso Robles Fire Department paramedics who responded pronounced Leon dead at the scene.
At around 4:00 a.m. on July 4, 2021, the BMW was found parked on Running Stag Way in Paso Robles and pieces of evidence of being involved in the collision were found inside the vehicle. Winters was arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on a $50,000 bail.
The driver of the first vehicle that hit Leon is still at large. The Paso Robles Police Department is asking those with information regarding the hit and run accident can call the department at (805) 237-6464.
