Rahway, New Jersey’s Yasemine Uyar found in Monterey, Tennessee; Tyler Rios arrested

Yasemine Uyar, 24, of Rahway, Union County, New Jersey, United States and her son Sebastian Rios, 2, went missing on July 9, 2021. That day, she did not arrive for scheduled work shifts and he did not show up for daycare.

Uyar and Rios were allegedly abducted from Rahway to Tennessee, USA by the boy’s father Tyler Rios, 27, of Highland Park, Middlesex County, New Jersey. The New Jersey State Police issued an Amber Alert for Sebastian’s possible abduction.

On the morning of July 10, 2021, Sebastian was found unharmed at a motel in Monterey, Putnam County, Tennessee where Monterey Police Department officers arrested Tyler. Later that day, Uyar was found dead in a wooded area nearby.

Tyler was booked into the the Putnam County Jail in Cookeville, Putnam County. He will be extradited back to New Jersey where is expected to be charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping.

“This is probably the hardest few days of our lives,” Uyar’s mother Karen Uyar told NBC New York. Unaware of Yasemin’s death, Sebastian is happy, according to his grandmother.

“He’s playing right now,” Karen said of Sebastian. “He’s obviously confused, asking for mommy.”
