Did Donald Trump ignore Mel Gibson’s salute at ‘UFC 264’ in Paradise, Nevada?

Donald Trump, 75, and Mel Gibson, 65, were among those who watch the Ultimate Fighting Championship event “UFC 264” live at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Clark County, Nevada, United States on July 10, 2021. The mixed martial arts event was headlined by Dustin “Diamond” Poirier, 32, of the U.S. and Conor “Notorious” McGregor, 32″ of Ireland.

Gibson was caught on camera offering a military-style salute Trump, who was walking past the “UFC 264” crowd. However, it appears that the 45th U.S. president ignored the Hollywood actor despite the honorific gesture.

There is also a possibility that Trump just did not notice Gibson at the time. Either way, the latter is earning a bad reputation online for saluting the former.

In the main event of “UFC 264,” McGregor lost to Poirier via technical knockout via doctor stoppage after one 5-minute round. It is unknown who Trump and Gibson rooted for.

In an interview with Jorge Ramos on Fusion in 2016, Gibson said he voted for neither Trump nor Hillary Clinton, 73, in the 58th quadrennial U.S. presidential election. Trump won and served as the U.S. president from January 20, 2017 to January 20, 2021.

Born in Peekskill, New York, USA, Gibson is of Irish descent. His father Hutton Gibson was also born in Peekskill while his mother Anne Patricia Reilly Gibson was born in Ireland.

Hutton was a World War II veteran and the grand champion of “Jeopardy!” in 1968. His mother Eva Mylott was born in Australia to Irish parents.
