Veronica Michaela “Roni” Vivas Meneses, 26, of Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines almost won Miss Philippines Earth 2021. She is the youngest child of Vergel C. Meneses, 52, a former Philippines Basketball Association player and the incumbent mayor of Bulakan, Bulacan, Philippines.
Roni stands 5’6″ and plays volleyball and badminton. She has an online business called RM Kitchen and a clothing line called RM Couture.
Before competing at Miss Philippines Earth 2021, Roni was Miss Mandaluyong 2020. She earned her bachelor’s degree in clothing technology from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila.
“You have goals in life and things you want to do,” the Miss Earth Philippines 2021 top 10 finalists were asked in the final question-and-answer round. “Given the ongoing pandemic with lots of restrictions, how do you plan to move forward?”
“I do believe that as long as there is a tomorrow, there is a chance for me to pursue my goals,” Roni answered. “Even in this pandemic, I was able to join Miss Philippines Earth. I was able share my advocacy to people and that does not stop me from doing even more.”
“I believe in living life with compassion and that value will allow me to be kind to people, to share love and to pay respect to myself and others,” the Mandaluyong City representative continued. “I will not let a pandemic stop me from reaching my goals. I’m already a step away from becoming hopefully Miss Philippines Earth.”
Broadcast on August 8, 2021, the Miss Philippines Earth 2021 coronation ceremony was held virtually due to the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The host was Robi Domingo while the judges were reigning Miss Earth 2020 Lindsey Coffey, 29, of the United States, Miss Earth 2018 Nguyễn Phương Khánh, 26, of Vietnam, Kim Atienza, 57, Marc Nelson, 49, Michael Seifert and Carousel Productions executive vice president Lorraine Schuck.
Including Meneses, 66 candidates competed for the Miss Philippines Earth 2021 title. She ranked fourth and won the Miss Philippines Fire 2021 title, losing to Miss Philippines Earth 2021 Naelah Alshorbaji, 23, of Parañaque City, Metro Manila.
Aside from Alshorbaji and Meneses, three other queens were crowned namely Miss Philippines Air 2021 Ameera Almamari, 19, of Atimonan, Quezon , Miss Philippines Water 2021 Rocel Angelah Songano, 18, of Iloilo City and Miss Philippines Eco Tourism 2021 Sofia Lopez Galve, 24, of Tanay, Rizal. In case Alshorbaji is not able to represent the Philippines at Miss Earth 2021, she will be replaced by Almamari, Songano, Meneses or Galve.
Meneses’s fellow Mandaluyong City resident Maria Gianna Llanes, 25, won the Miss Philippines Water 2020 at Miss Philippines Earth 2020. The other winners were Miss Philippines Air 2020 Patrixia Shirley Santos, 28, of Daraga, Albay, Miss Philippines Fire 2020 Marie Sherry Ann Quintana Tormes, 29, of Atimonan, Quezon, Miss Philippines Eco Tourism 2021 Ilyssa Marie Mendoza, 20, of Melbourne, Australia and Miss Philippines Earth 2020 Roxanne Allison Baeyens, 24, of Baguio City, who went on to become Miss Earth-Water 2020.
