Michael John Frederick Jr., 25, of Warren, Macomb County, Michigan, United States lived with his father on Carrier Street in Warren. Among their neighbors were married couple and U.S. Army veterans Eddie Hall Jr., 53, and Candace Hall, 55, on Tallman Avenue in Warren.

In 2016, Frederick damaged a vehicle in Lapeer, Lapeer County, Michigan after getting fired from his job. He was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property.

At around 10:30 p.m. on September 7, 2020, Frederick fired six shots at Eddie and Candace’s house in Warren. Frederick used a gun from his family’s garage, which belonged to his father’s ex-girlfriend.

At the time, Frederick was working full time at a meat market. At around 9:30 p.m. on September 9, 2020, he threw a large stone through Eddie and Candace’s front window where a Black Lives Matter sign displayed.

Moreover, Frederick used a black marker to draw a swastika and write “terrorist Black Lives Matter,” “not welcome and “get the f*** out” on the couple’s silver pickup truck. He slashed the tires of the couple’s F-150, 2001 Infinity I30 and 2006 BMW 325 vehicles.

Frederick also wrote the word “pedophile” in large letters on a garage door of another resident on Tom Allen Drive in Warren. The resident had political signs for Democratic candidates at the house.

At around 11:20 p.m. on September 10, 2020, Frederick fired two shots at Eddie and Candace’s house. One bullet entered the front window and landed on a couch.

On September 12, 2020, Frederick threw a rock throw a window of the house on Tom Allen Drive where he painted an offensive graffiti on September 9, 2020. He was arrested on September 29, 2020.

On the morning of October 1, 2020, Frederick appeared via Zoom video in the 37th District Court of Macomb County. He was arraigned on three counts of ethnic intimidation, four weapons offenses and two counts of malicious destruction of property.

“I’m extremely regretful of what I did,” Frederick said during the virtual arraignment. “I can say it’s not like me. I acted way out of character. This wasn’t about the color of anyone’s skin.”

Warren district court Judge Michael C. Chupa remanded Frederick to the Macomb County Jail in Mount Clemens, Macomb County on a $200,000 bond. The Warren man requested a court-appointed attorney to represent him.

On July 6, 2021, Frederick entered his no contest plea to malicious destruction of a building $1,000 to $20,000, malicious destruction of property $200 to $1,000, two counts each of weapons/firearms discharge in/at a building and weapons felony firearm and three counts of ethnic intimidation. On August 16, 2021, he was sentenced to 4-10 years in prison by Judge Diane Druzinski in Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens.
