Emma Raducanu, Leylah Fernandez attend Met Gala 2021 in New York; Naomi Osaka, Amanda Gorman are co-chairs

Both 2021 United States Open Tennis Championships women’s singles winner Emma Raducanu, 19, of England and her runner-up Leylah Fernandez, 19, of Canada attended the annual fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City, New York, United States on September 13, 2021. The event was chaired by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, 71, who is a tennis fan.

On September 11, 2021, Raducanu defeated Fernandez 6-4, 6-3 in the finals of the 2021 US Open women’s singles at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. Fernandez defeated defending champion Naomi Osaka, 23, of Japan in the third round.

Osaka also attended the Met Gala 2021, which was held with the theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” She was appointed co-chair along with Timothee Chalamet, 25, Billie Eilish, 19, and Amanda Gorman, 23.

On the red carpet, Osaka wore Louis Vuitton. Gorman wore Vera Wang.

On January 20, 2021, Gorman recited “The Hill We Climb” during the inauguration of 46th U.S. president Joe Biden, 78, in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., USA. She signed with IMG Models on January 26, 2021 and recited a poem before Super Bowl LV on February 7, 2021.

Raducanu, Fernandez and Osaka were not the only tennis stars who attended the Met Gala 2021. Also in attendance were Venus Williams, 41, Serena Williams, 39, Maria Sharapova, 34, Ajla Tomljanovic, 28, Matteo Berretini, 25, and Felix Auger-Alliasime, 21.
