Strongmen Thor “The Mountain” Bjornsson, 32, of Reykjavik, Iceland and Eddie “The Beast” Hall, 33, of Clayton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, England were supposed to battle it out at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, United States on September 18, 2021. However, the heavyweight bout, dubbed The Heaviest Boxing Match in History, was cancelled after the British contender was injured.
Bjornsson will still fight on September 18, 2021. He and Devon “No Limits” Larratt, 46, of Victoria, Canada will headline the MTK Global boxing event “Core Sports Fight Night 3” at Sport Society in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
.
“Eddie Hall seeing all of my fights doesn’t give him any advantage at all,” Bjornsson said during the “Core Sports Fight Night 3” press conference on September 16, 2021. “I don’t care how much he sees of me as actual competition gives you a much better experience than hiding behind closed doors.”
“He can hide and work out in his garage,” Bjornsson said of Hall. “That’s fine but when we fight I’ll knock him out.”
Hall won IMG Worldwide’s World’s Strongest Man in 2017. Bjornsson won the annual international strongman competition in 2018.
“I want to focus on Devon as he’s my rival and my enemy right now and after I finish him, I’ll take care of the next one,” Bjornsson shared. “I give it my best every single day. I’ve not seen my family for more than seven weeks and that’s how serious I’m taking this.”
Larratt will be Bjornsson’s third boxing opponent. The Icelandic strongman fought Steven Ward, 31, of Northern Ireland on January 16, 2021 and Simon Vallily, 36, of England on May 28, 2021 and both fights ended in a draw.
