Israel Diego Pascual, 14, of Shelbyville, Tennessee, United States was at Duck River Laundry in Shelbyville on the evening of September 13, 2021. He did laundry with his brother Adolfo Sebastion Pascual, 22, and their parents.
The parents left first in a separate car. Just after 9:00 p.m., the brothers had gotten into their Nissan Altima when Horatio Lewis Rice, 41, of Shelbyville allegedly ran up and shot the teenage boy in the laundromat’s parking lot.
Since that evening, local, state and federal investigators have been pursuing Rice and his girlfriend Tiffany Taylor, who also goes by the name Tiffany Rice. On the afternoon of September 17, 2021, the U.S. Marshal Service arrested the couple in a hotel in Tunica, Mississippi, USA.
Investigators believe it was a case of mistaken identity. Shelbyville Police Department deputy chief Brian Crews described it as a senseless crime that should not have happened.
Rice is facing murder and attempted murder charges. Details about Taylor’s involvement in the fatal shooting of Israel have yet to be released.
Israel was in ninth grade at Shelbyville Central High School. He had no prior involvement in criminal activities, according to investigators.
Before Rice and Taylor’s arrest, Michael Anthony Caldwell identified as a person of interest. The Shelbyville Police Department located Caldwell on September 14, 2021.
