Brian Laundrie, 23, of North Port, Sarasota County, Florida, United States is still missing. On September 15, 2021, the North Port Police Department named him a person of interest in the investigation of the disappearance of his fiancée Gabrielle “Gabby” Petito, 22, of Blue Point, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, USA.
Laundrie was not cooperating with authorities, according to the North Port Police Department. He was last seen by family members in Florida on September 14, 2021 and his parents said he went to T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve, also known as Carlton Reserve, a 24,565-acre preserve north of their home in North Port.
On September 18, 2021, the search for Laundrie started at the preserve. It was suspended overnight because of darkness.
On September 19, 2021, a team of more than 50 resumed the search at the preserve. On the same day, a body that matches Petito’s description was found at the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area in the Bridger-Teton National Forest on the east boundary of Grand Teton National Park in Teton County, Wyoming, USA.
Petito was in Grand Teton National Park when she spoke to her mother Nichole Schmidt via FaceTime on August 25, 2021. That was Petito’s last known location.
An aspiring travel blogger, Petito started her cross-country camping trip on July 2, 2021 with Laundrie and they travelled across the U.S. in a white 2012 Ford Transit van with a Florida license plate. On August 12, 2021, a witness saw them arguing near Moonflower Community Cooperative in Moab, Utah, USA and called 911.
On September 1, 2021, Laundrie drove the van back to North Port without Petito and on September 10, 2021, the van was recovered at his family’s home. On September 11, 2021, Schmidt reported Petito missing to the Suffolk County Police Department.
