The Miss Universe Philippines 2021 coronation night date and venue have been revealed. The second edition of the national beauty pageant that selects the Philippines’ Miss Universe candidate was originally set to culminate on September 25, 2021.
Because of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the coronation night had to be rescheduled. Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo, 24, of Iloilo will crown her successor at the Henann Resort Convention Center at the Alona Beach in Panglao, Bohol, Philippines on September 30, 2021.
Returning as the coronation ceremony host is KC Montero, 43, who hosted the inaugural edition held in Baguio City, Philippines in October 2020. The ceremony will feature performances by Sam Concepcion, 28, and Michael Pangilinan, 25.
Founded in 1803, Panglao is a fourth class municipality with 10 barangays. Its incumbent mayor is Leonila P. Montero.
Panglao is known for its tourist resorts and diving locations and is home to the Panglao Island International Airport, which opened in November 2018. The airport serves as Bohol’s primary airport.
There are 28 candidates competing for the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 title. Among them are fan favorites Steffi Rose Abestaturi, 27, of Cebu Province, Kirsten Danielle Delavin, 22, of Masbate and “Asia’s Next Top Model” Season 5 winner Maureen Christa Wroblewitz, 23, of Pangasinan.
Prior to the coronation night, the candidates competed in several challenges. Aberasturi and Wroblewitz won the runway and casting challenges, respectively, while Victoria Vincent Velasquez, 26, of Cavite won the interview challenge.
On September 1, 2021, 30 finalists were announced. However, Joanna Marie Rabe, 26, of Zambales withdrew from the competition on September 13, 2021 due to dengue fever and Ybonne Ortega, 23, of Davao City had to back out on September 19, 2021 after testing positive for COVID-19.
Also competing for the crown Katrina Jayne Dimaranan, 28, of Taguig and Miss Globe 2018 second runner-up Leren Mae Bautista, 28, of Laguna. Dimaranan represented the United States when she became runner-up to Miss Supranational 2018 Valeria Vazquez Latorre, 27, of Puerto Rico in Krynica-Zdrój, Poland.
