Larry J. Ibaretta Millete, 40, of Chula Vista, San Diego, California, United States has been taken into custody. Maya Mangaliman Talabanza Millette, 40, his wife and the mother of his three children, is still missing.
Maya was last seen alive on January 7, 2021 and Larry was the last person known to have seen her. She was reported missing on January 10, 2021.
“A mother is gone,” 10 News quoted Chula Vista Police Department chief Roxana Kennedy as saying. “A family is broken. A community is left with questions and confusion.”
The Chula Vista Police Department named Larry a person of interest on July 22, 2021 and arrested him at his home in Chula Vista on the afternoon of October 19, 2021. He was charged with the murder of Maya and illegal possession of an assault weapon.
On October 20, 2021, Larry will meet his attorney Bonita Martinez. He will appear in court at 1:30 p.m. on October 21, 2021.
“I received a courtesy call from the Deputy District Attorney alerting me to the arrest of Larry,” CBS8 quoted Martinez as saying. “He is going to be charged with murder. This is a surprise to me since they have no proof Maya is dead and I believe she is still alive.”
Maya is originally from the Philippines. She is one of the six children of Pablito Tabalanza and Noemi Tabalanza.
Larry is the son of U.S. Native veteran Benito Millete. On April 30, 1997, Larry stabbed a boy, then 17, in Bay Terraces, San Diego, California.
In 1999, Larry married Maya and he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Honolulu. From 2000 to 2005, he served in the U.S. Navy and had no disciplinary actions.
In January 2010, Maya gave birth to their first daughter. She gave birth to their second daughter in 2011 and to their son in 2016.
In 2020, Maya wanted a divorce but Larry did not want it, according to San Diego County district attorney Summer Stephan. That year, he sent hundreds of text messages to friends and family complaining about his wife who he accused of having an affair, according to an attorney named Billy Little Jr.
