Portugal’s Theresa Agonia is Reina Hispanoamericana 2021 fifth runner-up


Theresa Lila Matos Agonia, 29, represented Portugal at Reina Hispanoamericana 2021. It was the 30th edition of the international beauty pageant celebrating Hispanic heritage, language and culture based in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

Agonia was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, United States to Manuel Agonia and Fernanda Agonia. She grew in Viana do Castelo Minho, Portugal but later went back to the U.S. and lived in Cumberland, Rhode Island.

Theresa is 5’7″ tall. She is a professional dancer.


In 2007, Theresa won Miss Dia de Portugal RI in the junior category. In 2009, she went back to the same beauty pageant and won the senior category. 

In 2013, Theresa graduated from Roger Williams University with a bachelor’s degree in media communications. On August 30, 2015, she won Miss Rhode Island USA 2016.

On June 5, 2016, Theresa represented Rhode Island at Miss USA 2016 and competed against 51 other candidates. She was unplaced.

On September 21, 2021, Theresa competed against 21 other candidates at Miss Portuguesa 2021 at Casino Estoril in Estoril, Portugal. She won the Miss Elegance award and was crowned Reina Hispanoamericana Portugal 2021.


The Reina Hispanoamericana 2021 coronation ceremony was held at the Estudio 5 of Red Uno de Bolivia, a television network in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. Including Agonia, 27 women competed for the title.

Mister Supranational 2021 Vago Vargas, Miss Bolivia 2009 Claudia Arce Lemaitre and Miss Model of the World 1996 second runner-up Yenny Vaca Paz served as judges. They were joined by Koala Feel Free CEO Alexia Dabdoub, Universal Woman Pageant director Alexander Gonzalez Aguilar and “Despéiname La Vida” star Ronico Cuellar.


Agonia ranked seventh, making her the fifth runner-up. It was Andrea Bazarte, 27, of Mexico who won the Reina Hispanoamericana 2021 crown while Ana Lucia Tejeira, 25, of Panama was Virreina Hispanoamericana 2021.

Maria Alejandra Vengoechea, 23, of Colombia was first runner-up while Andrea Romero, 24, of Venezuela was second runner-up. Emmanuelle Vera, 26, of the Philippines and Bruna Zanardo, 29, of Brazil were the respective third and fourth runners-up.
