Who is the incumbent governor of New Jersey?
Philip Dunton Murphy is the 56th and incumbent governor of New Jersey. He assumed office on January 16, 2018.
Born in Needham, Massachusetts, USA, Murphy graduated from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. In 1983, he graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, USA with a master’s degree in business administration.
In the late 1990s, Murphy moved to Middletown Township, New Jersey. He was the finance chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2006 to 2009.
Murphy was the U.S. ambassador to Germany from September 3, 2009 to August 26, 2013. He became the National Governors Association vice chair on July 8, 2021.
