Waimānalo, Hawaii’s Isaac Kalua, Lehua Kalua arrested for murder in Isabella Kalua’s disappearance


Isaac “Sonny” K. Kalua III, 52, of Waimānalo, Oahu, Hawaii, United States and his wife Lehua Kalua, 43, have been arrested. They are accused of murdering their adopted daughter Isabella Kalua, 6.

At around 7:30 a.m. on November 10, 2021, the Honolulu Police Department arrested Lehua at her home in Waimānalo. Also that morning, her husband was arrested at his workplace at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Pearl Harbor, Oahu.


According to Sonny and Lehua, they adopted Isabella in January 2021. The couple claimed that Ariel was last seen in her bedroom on September 12, 2021 when they reported their adopted daughter missing on September 13, 2021.

Isabella’s body has yet to be recovered and the cause of her death is still under investigation. She was allegedly killed by Sonny and Lehua in August 2021.

Both being held without bail, Sonny and Lehua will make their first court appearance on November 12, 2021. They are each charged with second-degree murder.


In June 2021, Sonny and Lehua requested to have Isabella withdrawn from public school to home-school her. The girl was a first-grader.

Isabella was 3’3″ tall. Her registered weight was 46 lbs.

Isabella’s original name is Ariel Sellers. She is the biological daughter of Melanie Joseph, 33, and Joseph’s former boyfriend.

Including Isabella, Joseph has five daughters, Sonny and Lehua had custody of four of them since 2017.
