Buffalo, New York’s Billy Henderson pleads guilty to selling butyryl fentanyl, furanyl fentanyl


Billy D. Henderson, 42, of Buffalo, New York, United States has pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and distributing 100 grams or more of butyryl fentanyl and furanyl fentanyl. This was announced by U.S. attorney Trini E. Ross on November 15, 2021.

Butyryl fentanyl has been shown to produce clinical symptoms of respiratory depression and could likely lead to life-threatening respiratory depression, according to “Two Fatal Intoxications Involving Butyryl Fentanyl” by Justin Poklis et al. A potent µ-opioid receptor agonist and a CNS depressant, it has been associated with numerous incidences of adverse health effects in humans since 2014, according to Federal Register.

Law enforcement and public health officials in the U.S. has encountered furanyl fentanyl since 2015. At least 128 fatalities were confirmed to be associated with the misuse and/or abuse of furanyl fentanyl in 2016.


Henderson lived with his girlfriend Denise Porter, 34, in Buffalo. On April 3, 2019, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at their residence.

During the search, Henderson and Porter threw controlled substances out of the windows. Law enforcement later recovered ammunition, a drug press, around $7,000 cash, packaging materials for narcotics distribution, two digital scales with narcotics residue and quantities of butyryl fentanyl, furanyl fentanyl, cocaine, fentanyl and heroin.


Both Henderson and Porter were arrested that day. They were each charged with possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, distribution of controlled substances, maintaining a drug involved premises and manufacturing controlled substances creating a substantial risk of harm to human life.

Porter was previously convicted. Her sentencing will be on February 23, 2022.
