Peng Shuai (彭帅) was born in Xiangtan, Hunan, China. As a professional tennis player, she is known for playing with two hands on both sides and hits very flat.

On November 17, 2021, Chinese state-affiliated media CGTN released an email allegedly written by her to Simon, saying she was resting at home, her allegation against Zhang was not true and she was not missing. However, the authenticity of the email was cast doubt. On November 21, 2021, she appeared  at the Fila Kids Junior Tennis Challenger Final in Beijing, China but did not release a statement about her allegation against Zhang.
