Officially called the Republic of China, Taiwan is a country in East Asia. It shares maritime borders with the People’s Republic of China to the northwest, Japan to the northeast and the Philippines to the south.
Tsai Ing-wen is the incumbent president of Taiwan. She assumed office on May 20, 2016, making her the country’s first female president, and was reelected in 2020.
