Marian Rivera, 37, of the Philippines will be one of the Miss Universe 2021 judges. This marks her first time to be in a judging panel of a major international beauty pageant.
Rivera was born in Madrid, Spain to her Spanish father Francisco Javier Gracia Alonso and her Filipino mother Amalia Rivera. Marian was 3 years old when her parents divorced.
Marian grew up in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the De La Salle University-Dasmariñas in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
The Miss Universe 2021 coronation night will be held in Eilat, Israel on December 12, 2021. A total of 80 women will compete for the title including Beatrice Luigi Gomez, 26, of the Philippines.
Marian’s fellow Miss Universe 2021 judges have yet to be announced. She has yet to travel to Israel.
This is not the first time a Filipino is serving as a Miss Universe judge. Lea Salonga, 50, judged in 2011, followed by Manny Pacquiao, 42, in the 2014 edition in 2015, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, 32, in 2017, and Richelle Singson-Michael and Monique Lhuillier, 50, in 2018.
As an actress, Marian became a household name in the Philippines after playing the title role of the Philippine version of “Marimar,” a telenovela aired in Mexico in 1994. The title character in the original Mexican version was played by Thalia, 50, opposite Eduardo Capetillo, 51, as Sergio Santibáñez.
The Philippine version of “Marimar” aired on GMA Network from 2007 to 2008. Sergio Santibáñez was played by Dingdong Dantes, 41.
On December 30, 2014, Marian and Dantes got married at Cubao Cathedral in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She gave birth to their daughter Maria Letizia Dantes in November 2015 and their son Jose Sixto Gonzalez Dantes in April 2019.
