The Republic of Iraq is a country in Western Asia and a founding member of the United Nations. The country is bordered by Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, Syria to the west, Jordan to the southwest, Kuwait to the southeast and Saudi Arabia to the south.
On October 3, 1932, the Kingdom of Iraq was established. On July 14, 1958, it was declared as a republic.
Iraq’s incumbent and eighth president Barham Salih, 61, assumed office on October 2, 2018. The country’s incumbent prime minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, 53, assumed office on May 7, 2020.
