The Republic of Sierra Leone is a country in Western Africa. Guinea surrounds the northern half of the country, which is bordered by Liberia to the southeast.

Sierra Leone gained its independence from the United Kingdom on April 27, 1961 and became a constitutional republic on April 19, 1971. On September 27, 1961, Sierra Leone was admitted to the United Nations.

Julius Maada Bio, 57, is the incumbent president of Sierra Leone. He assumed office on April 4, 2018.
