The Republic of Somaliland is a de facto sovereign state in Eastern Africa. The state is bordered by Djibouti to the northwest, Somalia to the east and Ethiopia to the west and the south and west.

Somaliland is recognized by the United Nations as de jure part of Somalia. On May 18, 1991, Somaliland declared its independence.
