‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ star Zendaya: ‘Euphoria’ Season 2 is tonally different

Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, 25, plays a recovering teenage drug addict named Rue Bennett in “Euphoria,” which premiered on HBO on June 16, 2019. Mononymously known as Zendaya, the actress talked about the second season of the drama series when she appeared on the NBC show “Today” on January 11, 2022.

“It’s a very different season to be honest,” Zendaya said. “I mean, tonally, it’s different. I think it’s far more emotional than the first season.”

“Much like the film stock that we use this season, which is also different, it’s high contrast, meaning the highs are high, the lows are low,” the actress continued. “And when it’s funny, it’s really funny and when it’s painful, it’s really painful.”

“Euphoria” Season 2 premiered on HBO on January 9, 2022. Joining Zendaya in the cast are Angus Cloud as Fesco, Javon “Wanna” Walton as Ashtray and Dominic Fike as Elliot.

Written and directed by Sam Levinson, the first episode of the new season titled “Trying to Get to Heaven Before They Close the Door” showed an intoxicated Rue on New Year’s Eve. She accompanies Fezco and Ashtray to a particularly intense drug deal before attending a large house party.

Later, Rue nearly enters cardiac arrest after taking a concoction of drugs with Elliot. She then takes Adderall to stabilize her heartrate.

Zendaya also plays Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” She first played the character in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which was released in the U.S. on July 7, 2017, then in “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” which was released in the U.S. on July 2, 2019.

Written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and directed by Jon Watts, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was released in the U.S. on December 17, 2021. It grossed more than $1.5 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film released by Sony Pictures and the eighth highest-grossing film of all time.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man. Joining him and Zendaya in the main cast are Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Jon Favreau as Harold “Happy” Man, Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon / Electro, Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn / Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius / Doctor Octopus, Benedict Wong as Wong, Tony Revolori as Eugene “Flash” Thompson and Marisa Tomei as May Parker.

Smoove as Julius Dell, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and Venom, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors / Lizard and Thomas Haden Church as Flint Marko / Sandman.
