Dolores Barajas of El Paso, Texas, United States was 53 when she died in Denver, Colorado, USA on August 10, 1980.

Months before Barajas died, she moved from El Paso to Denver to visit family. She temporarily worked in the cafeteria of the Fairmont Hotel in Denver.

On August 10, 1980, Barajas was supposed to go to the Fairmont Hotel in Denver where she was employed. It was her last day of work and she was preparing to return home to El Paso.

While walking to work that day, Barajas was attacked and fatally stabbed allegedly died by Joseph Michael “Joe” Ervin, then 29. She was found lying in the road near Pearl Street and East 17th Avenue in Denver.

Ervin was born in Fort Worth, Texas. On August 9, 1969, he allegedly shot Rodney Gene Bonham, then 21. After Bonham died on August 13, 1969, Ervin moved to Denver.

On July 1, 1981, Ervin committed suicide while incarcerated in the Adams County Detention Center in Brighton, Colorado. On January 28, 2022, the Denver Police Department publicly identified him as Barajas’s killer.
