Yohan Goutt Gonçalves, 27, is the sole representative of East Timor at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Hosted by Beijing, China, the international winter multisport event will be held from February 4-20, 2022.
Gonçalves was born in Suresnes, France to a French father and a Timorese mother. On December 29, 2013, the French-Timorese alpine skier lowered his point total to below 140 in a race in Serbia, which qualified him to compete for East Timor at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

This made Gonçalves the first athlete to qualify from East Timor at the Winter Olympics. In 2017, he became the first athlete to represent the country in the Asian Winter Games.
In 2018, Goncalves represented East Timor in the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Gang-won-do, South Korea. He will compete in the slalom and the giant slalom at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
In July 2015, Beijing was elected as the host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics at the 128th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This marks the first time the Winter Olympics is held in China.
Including Goncalves, a total of 2,871 athletes from 91 countries and territories will compete in 109 events in seven sports. Aside from Beijing, some events will be held in other parts of China including Yanqing and Chongli.
