Sarah Escobar, 20, is the sole representative of Ecuador at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Hosted by Beijing, China, the international winter multisport event will be held from February 4-20, 2022.
On February 7, 2022, Escobar will compete in the women’s giant slalom, marking the first time a female athlete from Ecuador is competing in Winter Olympics. She is also the first Alpine skier to represent the country in the winter multisport event.

Born in New York, United States to Ecuadorian parents, Escobar is a citizen of both Ecuador and the U.S. She grew up in Sparta, New Jersey, USA and learned to ski in Stowe, Vermont, USA in 2005.
Escobar attended Waterville Academy in New Hampshire, USA. She is currently attending Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont.
In July 2015, Beijing was elected as the host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics at the 128th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This marks the first time the Winter Olympics is held in China.
Including Escobar, a total of 2,871 athletes from 91 countries and territories will compete in 109 events in seven sports. Aside from Beijing, some events will be held in other parts of China including Yanqing and Chongli.
