Maeva Estevez, 26, is one of the five athletes representing Andorra at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Hosted by Beijing, China, the international winter multisport event will be held from February 4-20, 2022.
Including Andorra and China, there are 91 countries and territories participating in the event. At the 128th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in July 2015, Beijing was elected as the event’s host city, marking the first time the Winter Olympics is held in China.

On February 4, 2022, the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at Beijing National Stadium in Beijing. The final seven torchbearers mounted the torch itself into the center of a stylized snowflake that was constructed from placards bearing the names of the delegations competing in the event.
Estevez served as Andorra’s flagbearer during the opening ceremony. She will compete in women’s snowboard cross event.
Born in Encamp, Andorra, Estevez started skiing in 1996 and switched to snowboarding in 2006. She finished 48th in snowboard cross at a Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) event in Puy-Saint-Vincent, Hautes-Alpes, France in 2011 and 31st in snowboard cross at the 2017 World Cup in Feldberg, Germany.
After testing positive for the new coronavirus (COVID-19)pandemic on December 25, 2021, Estevez resulted negative on January 17, 2022. She is the first female athlete to represent Andorra in the Winter Olympics.

Also representing Andorra at the 2022 Winter Olympics are Joan Verdu Sanchez, 26, Irineu Esteve Altimiras, 25, Carola Vila Obiols, 23, and Cande Moreno, 21. Sanchez and Moreno will compete in alpine skiing while Esteve and Vila will compete in cross-country skiing.
Including Estevez, Sanchez, Altimiras, Obiols and Moreno, a total of 2,871 athletes will compete in 109 events in seven sports. The events will be held not only in Beijing but also in other parts of China including Yanqing and Chongli.
