Vladimir Litvintsev, 20, and Ekaterina Ryabova, 18, are the representatives of Azerbaijan at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Hosted by Beijing, China, the international winter multisport event will be held from February 4-20, 2022.

On January 18, 2022, Litvintsev was named as Azerbaijan’s flagbearer during the event’s opening ceremony. He will compete in men’s figure skating while Ryabova will compete in women’s figure skating.

Born in Ukhta, Russia, Litvintsev started learning to skate in 2004 and in 2010, he and his family moved to Moscow, Russia. He is the 2018 Ice Star silver medalist, the 2018 Volvo Open Cup champion and the 2019 Open Ice Mall Cup champion.

Ryabova, who was born in Moscow, finished eighth at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics. Currently, the International Skating Union ranks her as the 15th best female figure skater in the world.

In July 2015, Beijing was elected as the host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics at the 128th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This marks the first time the Winter Olympics is held in China.

Including Litvintsev and Ryabova, a total of 2,871 athletes from 91 countries and territories will compete in 109 events in seven sports. The events will be held not only in Beijing but also in other parts of China including Yanqing and Chongli.

On February 4, 2022, the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at Beijing National Stadium in Beijing. The final seven torchbearers mounted the torch itself into the center of a stylized snowflake that was constructed from placards bearing the names of the delegations competing in the event.
