Maxim Gordeev, 26, is the sole representative of Kyrgyzstan at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Hosted by Beijing, China, the international winter multisport event will be held from February 4-20, 2022.

On January 28, 2022, Kyrgyzstan’s secretary of state Suyunbek Kasmambetov handed over the country’s national flag to Gordeev. On February 16, 2022, the latter will compete in men’s slalom at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Born and raised in Karakol, Issyk-Kul Region, Kyrgyzstan, Gordeev has been skiing since 2010. He is being trained by Ski Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic president Igor Borisov.

Gordeev qualified for the 2022 Winter Olympics by winning a tournament in the UAE in November 2021. He will be accompanied at the international winter multisport event by Borisov.

In July 2015, Beijing was elected as the host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics at the 128th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This marks the first time the Winter Olympics is held in China.

Including Gordeev, a total of 2,871 athletes from 91 countries and territories will compete in 109 events in seven sports. The events will be held not only in Beijing but also in other parts of China including Yanqing and Chongli.

From 2018 to 2021, Gordeev represented Kyrgyzstan in different countries including Armenia, Austria, Iran, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. In 2018, he finished fourth in an Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) event.
