Chicago, Illinois’s Anna Kochakian vandalized Ella French memorial?

Anna Kochakian, 26, of Chicago, Illinois, United States graduated from DePaul University in Chicago in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in women’s and gender studies. She is a former employee of Clockedin, a startup in Chicago focusing on hiring for businesses. 

On Twitter, Kochakian labeled herself as an “anarcho communist political education nerd.” Her account on the social media site is no longer available.

On August 7, 2021, Chicago Police Department officers Carlos Yanez, 30, and Ella French, 29, stopped a sports utility vehicle Emonte M. Morgan, 21, of Chicago was driving on South Bell Avenue in Chicago over expired plates. Morgan allegedly shot the two officers.

French and Yanez were rushed to the hospital where the former later died. The gun used to shoot the officers was reportedly a Glock 22-caliber pistol Morgan he bought from Jamel Danzy, 30, of Hammond, Indiana, USA.

On the evening of August 19, 2021, Kochakian allegedly tore down and crumpled a memorial photograph of French at the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago and discarded it in a trash can at a Chicago Transit Authority platform. On February 9, 2022, Kochakian was arrested at her Chicago residence.

The handcuffs used to arrest Kochakian belonged to Yanez. Aside from losing an eye, he was also partially paralyzed after being allegedly shot by Morgan.

Kochakian was charged with criminal damage to property. Her bond hearing will be on February 10, 2022 while Morgan is set to appear in court again on March 3, 2022.
