Victoria, Canada’s Dustin Joynson earns 1st ONE Championship win in Singapore

Dustin Joynson, 36, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada was one of the winners at the ONE Championship event “ONE: Bad Blood.” It was his first victory in the Singapore-based martial arts organization.

Featuring nine mixed martial arts bouts and one Muay Thai contest, “ONE: Bad Blood” was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on February 11, 2022. In the fourth bout of the evening, Johnson faced ONE Championship debutante Hugo “Silverback” Cunha, 29, of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in an MMA bout in the heavyweight division.

After three five-minute rounds, referee Olivier Coste raised Joynson’s hand. The Canadian MMA fighter was declared the winner via unanimous decision.

The victory improved Joynson’s professional MMA record to 7 wins, 1 loss and 1 No Contest. On the other hand, Cunha now has 6 wins and 1 loss.

A total of 18 countries were represented at “ONE: Bad Blood,” namely Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam. Joynson and Cunha solely represented Canada and Brazil, respectively.

Training at ZUMA in Victoria, Joynson signed his ONE Championship contract in January 2021. In his promotional debut at “ONE: NextGen” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on October 29, 2021, he lost via unanimous decision to Kirill Grishenko, 30, of Minsk, Belarus.

Joynson made his professional MMA debut on May 16, 2014. He defeated Jannie Joubert, 39, of Prince George, British Columbia via technical knockout in a Prestige Fighting Championship event in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.

After going on hiatus from 2015 to 2016, Joynson made a comeback in 2017 and defeated three opponents in one year, namely Chris Catala, 43, of Bauru, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Jared “The King” Henderson, 34, of The Pas, Manitoba, Canada and Grayson “Relentless” Wells of Kelowna, British Columbia. On November 17, 2018, Joynson defeated Caio “Bigfoot” Machado, 27, of Vancouver, British Columbia in a Battlefield Fight League event in Coquitlam, British Columbia.

The fight between Joynson and Ben “Combat Wombat” Sosoli, 32, of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia at “Dana White’s Contender Series” Season 3 episode 10 in Enterprise, Nevada, USA on August 27, 2019 ended in a No Contest due to eye poke. On October 30, 2020, the Canadian MMA fighter defeated Carl “Badwater” Seumanutafa, 38, of San Francisco, California, USA in a Cage Fury Fighting Championships event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
