On April 23, 2022, Simmons attended the NBA game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics at the Barclays Center in New York City, New York, United States in Game 3. The former lost to the latter 109-103.

On the Brooklyn Nets bench, it was very easy to spot Simmons, who was still sidelined for the game. The Australian basketball player wore street clothes colored purple, blue and bright orange, which are not the colors of his team, while almost everyone around him was wearing black and white.

On April 12, 2022, Simmons was also at the Barclays Center where the Brooklyn Nets defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 115-108. He wore a green Prada lamb-skin suit jacket over a white Supreme shirt, which he paired with green Prada shorts and white Nike x Sacai shoes, while almost everyone around him was wearing black.

On March 21, 2022, Simmons was diagnosed with a herniated disk in his back. On April 4, 2022, he was ruled out by Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash, 48, of Canada for the remainder of the NBA’s 2021-2022 regular season and play-in tournament.

Details about Simmons’ Brooklyn Nets debut are still unknown. At the team’s practice facility on April 22, 2022, he said he was no longer feeling pain from his back injury.

“It’s a good challenge but now I’m looking forward to it, especially playing with these guys,” Yahoo! Sports quoted Simmons as saying. He said his “IQ is so high” to “play the guys like” his Brooklyn Nets teammates Kevin Durant, 33, Seth Curry, 31, and Kyrie Irving, 30.

“(I) just watched them,” Simmons said of Durant, Curry and Irving. “I know how they play. I know how they want to play.”
