Cooleemee, North Carolina’s Aschod Ewing-Meeks, Ashton Brown found in burning home


Aschod Meeks-Ewing and his girlfriend Ashton Brown have died. They were both 26.

Meeks-Ewing and Brown lived in Cooleemee, Davie County, North Carolina, United States with their two children. She gave birth to their daughter Bella Meeks-Ewing in 2018 and their son Brixx Meeks-Ewing in September 2021.

At 12:11 p.m. on April 18, 2022, Aschod and Brown went to the Davie County Sheriff’s Office in Mocksville, Davie County with their two children. They asked to see a deputy although they were vague about what they wanted.

Aschod and Brown gave the receptionist an address in Mocksville, which belongs to her parents. The receptionist gave the couple a phone number to call.


At 12:15 p.m., the family left the Davie County Sheriff’s Office. At 12:35 p.m., Brown called 911 and told someone in Davie County telecommunication that they had safety concerns and they wanted to speak to a deputy.

At 12:46 p.m., a deputy called Brown, who turned over the phone to Aschod, and the call lasted around 30 seconds only. The deputy called back and the call lasted 55 seconds so the deputy called back again and the next call lasted for 2 minutes.

From 12:54 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., the deputy talked to Aschod again on the phone. He said he believed someone was following him and they were driving around the area but he would not give the deputy a specific location or return to the sheriff’s office.


The deputy called back at 1:06 p.m. and at 1:07 p.m. but both calls went to the voicemail. Authorities were not able to contact Aschod and Brown again.

At 2:00 p.m., a witness saw Aschod and Brown arguing in the front yard of their house on Junction Road Cooleemee. The witness left after the couple went inside the house, which was later seen burning.

A passerby drove to Cooleemee Fire Department in Cooleemee to report the house fire. At 2:17 p.m., firefighters were on scene.

While working the fire, the firefighters found Brown and Brixx in the kitchen, Bella in a bedroom’s doorway and Aschod at the end of the hallway leading to the kitchen. The four were all fatally shot and Aschod was still holding a gun.

At 2:30 p.m., detectives arrived on the scene. They found out that the fire was intentionally set.
