Thomas Davis Cox , 58, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States has been extradited to Phoenix, Arizona, USA. He is being held on a $1 million cash bond.
Cox is accused of killing Susan Amy Morse of Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona. In 1989, his mother lived next to Morse’s apartment in Mesa.

When Morse was born in Mesa, her father William Atwood Morse was 32 while her mother Tillie Fernandez was 24. On August 21, 1989, Susan turned 22.
Susan lived alone in an apartment near Country Club Drive and Southern Avenue in Mesa. At 6:35 p.m. on October 16, 1989, she was found dead in the apartment.
Investigators found no sign of forced entry and that Susan died of asphyxiation after being sexually molested. She was buried in the City of Mesa Cemetery on North Center Street in Mesa.
On November 13, 1990, another woman, 23, was sexually assaulted in the same apartment in Mesa where Susan lived and was killed. The woman, whose name was not released, was not killed.

On October 16, 1989, Cox allegedly sexually molested Morse and fatally strangled her inside her apartment in Mesa. On November 13, 1990, he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman, then 23, who lived in the same apartment in Mesa where Morse was killed.
Cox allegedly stole cash and a videocassette recorder from the apartment before fleeing the scene. Advanced deoxyribonucleic acid and fingerprint technology was used to identify him as the man who killed Morse and the other victim.
In March 2022, Cox was indicted on 16 counts including first-degree murder, sexual assault, burglary and kidnapping. On April 23, 2022, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and Mesa Police Department officers arrested him at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix.
