Miss Georgia 2022 Kelsey Hollis wins $20,000 scholarship; UT Knoxville student to prepare for Miss America 2023

Miss Capital City Kelsey Hollis, 22, of Warner Robins, Georgia, United States has earned the job of serving as Miss Georgia 2022, which comes with a $20,000 scholarship. She attends the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA.

Hollis is the second woman to win both Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen and Miss Georgia. The first one is Michaela Lackey, 32, of Marietta, Georgia, who is Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen 2007 and Miss Georgia 2011.

As Miss Georgia 2021, Karson Pennington, 24, of Augusta, Georgia received a $15,000 scholarship. She was unplaced at Miss America 2022, which was held at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA on December 19, 2021.

Now that Hollis has locked down the job of Miss Georgia 2022, she will begin preparations to compete for the job of Miss America 2023, which will also take place at Mohegan Sun. Dates have yet to be announced.

This will be the second time Hollis is representing Georgia in a national scholarship competition. As Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen 2016, she finished as second runner-up at Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2017.

On the first night of the Miss Georgia 2022 scholarship competition, Hollis won the Betty Cantrell Preliminary On-Stage Interview/Social Impact Pitch, which includes a $300 scholarship. On the third night of preliminaries, she won the talent competition for her contemporary vocal performance and a $500 scholarship sponsored by the George and Vickie Corrodino Fund.

The UT Knoxville student also received additional awards and scholarships. Her social impact initiative Autism Acceptance: A Platform for Change is dedicated to her older brother Jeremy Hollis, who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at a young age

“I’m so honored to be the new Miss Georgia,” Kelsey said. “I started this journey when I was 13 years old and I actually competed for a whole year and didn’t win a title so being able to represent our state as a Miss, especially after being able to represent it as Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen in 2016, is not only an honor but a blessing.”

The final part of Miss Georgia 2022 was held at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in Columbus, Georgia on June 18, 2022. Runner-up to Kelsey was Miss Macon Tara Schiphof of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, who received a $6,000 scholarship.

As the second runner-up, Miss Gwinnett County A’Leah Burrell of Tyrone, Georgia received a $3,000 scholarship. The third runner-up, Miss Cobb County Carley Vogel of Kennesaw, Georgia, won a $2,000 scholarship while the fourth runner-up, Miss Rome Taylor Burrell of Tyrone, won a $1,000 scholarship.
