New Zealand’s Carlos Ulberg earns 2nd UFC win, beats Cameroon’s Tafon Nchukwi in Nevada


Carlos “Black Jag” Ulberg, 31, of Auckland, New Zealand was one of the winners at the Ultimate Fighting Championship event “UFC on ESPN 38“, also known as “UFC Vegas 57“. It was the second UFC win of the German-Māori-Samoan mixed martial artist.

Featuring 12 matches, “UFC Vegas 57” was held at UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada, United States on June 25, 2022. In the sixth bout of the evening, Ulberg fought Tafon “Da Don” Nchukwi, 27, of Bamenda, Cameron in the light heavyweight division.

Referee Herb Dean ended the light heavyweight contest after 1 minute and 15 seconds in the first round. Ulberg was declared the winner via technical knockout via punches.

The victory improved Ulberg’s professional MMA record to 5 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, Nchukwi now has 6 wins and 3 losses.


Training at City Kickboxing in Auckland, Ulberg made his professional MMA debut on August 26, 2011 at “King of the Door: Submission 2” in Auckland where he defeated his fellow Aucklander Kaota Puna via technical knockout. After going on hiatus from 2012 to 2017, he made a comeback on December 8, 2018 and defeated John Martin Fraser, 29, of Wales, Swansea via unanimous decision at “Eternal MMA 40” in Perth, Australia.

In 2019, Ulberg went on hiatus again. On November 4, 2020, he knocked out Bruno Oliveira, 37, of Sal Paulo, Brazil at “Dana White’s Contender Series” Contender Series 2020 Week 8 at the UFC Apex in Enterprise.

When Ulberg made his UFC debut at “UFC 259” at the UFC Apex on March 6, 2021, he was knocked out by Kennedy “African Savage” Nzechukwu, 29, of Dallas, Texas. On February 12, 2022, Ulberg earned his first UFC win by beating Fabio “The Water Buffalo” Cherant, 27, of Wrentham, Massachusetts, USA via unanimous decision at “UFC 271” in Houston, Texas, USA.


In 1994, Ulberg started living with a foster family in Auckland. Before becoming a UFC fighter, he competed in rugby, boxing and kickboxing.

As a kickboxer, Ulberg was King in the Ring‘s heavyweight champion in 2017 and cruiserweight champion in 2019. He competed in “Game Of Bros” Season 2 in 2017 and competed again in the third season in 2018 along with boxer David Letele, 42, and MMA fighter Kai “Don’t Blink” Kara-France, 28, who are also both from Auckland.
